about me

My research interests include dance reconstruction, analysis of movement and choreography, somatics, and the relationship between mass performance, kinesthesia, and social and political organization. I finished an MFA in dance with emphasis on Laban studies at The Ohio State University in summer 2011. There, I reconstructed a 1930s German movement choir using a Kinetography Laban score, as well as performing in works by Ohad Naharin and Noa Zuk; I also have BFA in dance performance from Ohio State. I am currently a Program Assistant in the Undergraduate Research Office at OSU, and have worked as a teacher in the Program for Humanities development. I’m also interested in movement, becoming engrossed in a yoga practice, want to learn more about the Gaga movement language and travel to Israel someday, a believer in bicycling, and a lover of homegrown vegetables, interested in sustainable urban living, and a lover of chocolate. Please comment on my blog – I write things here for myself, but also with the hope of being challenged, encouraged, directed, and engaged in conversation – so write to me!

    Hi, Mara.
We’ve got some in common. I’m also a dancer, mother and student. Difference is I’m based in São Paulo, Brazil.
I’m interested in working with gestures in dance and oral languages, and I came to your presentation in Germany, next July, Dance Notation and gesture.
I’d like to know if you are acquainted with DanceWriting notation system, and to discuss the best way to describe gestures in dance.
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Best regards,
    Ana Luisa
